Edition Rights System
Beginning with the Malleus Maleficarum Artefact Edition and the King in Yellow Binder's Edition, we are introducing an edition rights system.
How Rights Are Earned
- Purchasing the most recently released Artefact Edition grants you the right to purchase the next Artefact Edition released.
- Purchasing the most recently released Binder's Edition grants you the right to purchase the next Binder's Edition released.
- If you hold both an Artefact Edition and a Binder's Edition of the same title, you hold parallel rights chains — one for each edition tier.
Examples
- Purchasing the Malleus Maleficarum Artefact Edition → right to purchase the Lovecraft Artefact Edition.
- Purchasing the King in Yellow Binder's Edition → right to purchase the Lovecraft Binder's Edition.
- And so on — each Artefact or Binder's Edition carries forward the right to the corresponding edition of the next book.
What Rights Give You
- Early access: Rights holders will get the opportunity to purchase the new book for 48 hours before it opens up for public pre-order/release.
- Discounted pricing: Rights holders purchase at a reduced rate.
Important Details
- Holding rights is not a commitment to buy; it simply means you will have the opportunity to do so.
- If you choose not to exercise your rights for a given release, those rights do not carry forward to the following title. However, you can always re-enter the rights chain by purchasing the current title through the public release — doing so will grant you rights to the next book.
- Rights apply to books only, not pamphlets.
Transfers and Numbering
- Rights remain with the physical book. If you sell or give away your copy, the rights transfer with it. Transfers can be completed using a transfer form, which will be available on our website.
- We will do our best to accommodate all rights holders. However, if your designation falls outside the total print run of the next book (e.g., if you hold number 401 and the next book is limited to 400 copies), we may not be able to guarantee your place. If copies remain when the book opens to the public, you may place an order as normal.
- You must hold the rights from the previous book when the rights pre-order opens for the next book.
For example: purchasing the Book 2 Artefact Edition grants you the right to purchase the Book 3 Artefact Edition. However, this does not automatically grant rights to Book 4. To hold rights for Book 4, you must also own the Book 3 Artefact Edition when the rights pre-order for Book 4 opens.
If you skip a title and your rights lapse, you are always welcome to purchase the current book through the public release. Doing so re-enters you into the rights chain for the following title.
Release Order & Pricing
Each new book will be released in stages, with the best pricing reserved for rights holders and our newsletter subscribers.
- First 48 hours (Rights holders). If you hold edition rights, you get first access to purchase the next book at a special discounted price before anyone else.
- Public launch (Newsletter subscribers). When the book opens to the public, newsletter subscribers will have a 48-hour window to purchase any remaining copies at the same special price as rights holders.
- Early bird (Everyone). A small number of remaining copies will be available at early-bird prices, between the rights/subscriber price and the standard Kickstarter price.
- Kickstarter price (Everyone). The standard campaign price.
- Retail. After the campaign ends, the Codex edition and any remaining Artefact and Binder's Editions will be available through our shop at full price.
Rights holders and newsletter subscribers will also be able to purchase Codex editions at a discounted price. Note that Codex editions do not carry edition rights, and pamphlets are not part of the rights system.
